On the durability issue, bicycle rim spoke set-ups are VERY strong. I ride BMX street and dirt, put my bike through serious abuse, and have never damaged a 20 inch rim beyond repair.

More of a street looking version would be good, especially for cruising around SF.

Wow, that's pretty cool... although I doubt it will be long before laws come into place about licensing... we can't have kids whipping these things around public streets.

I think the wheels/rims and tires don't match what your going for. Maybe a mag, not those little bicycle rims and low gage spokes. If the rider weights 140lbs, and the bike is 135lbs, thats 280lbs on those rims. Are these rims titanium? For almost 9,k I think I would like some thing like a set of
QTM - Talon/Excel wheels. 9,000. dollars is a good chunk in today's wallet's.

You guys should put some real dirt bike tires on your bike ;)!
Can you get this bike wet without the danger of getting electrocuted or wrecking the bike? And can't just anyone buy the bike?

FalconEV: It technically qualifies as a bicycle, so you need the same things you need to ride a bike, though that won't apply in all states.

As I noted, people who want more info about the specific battery type can look up A123.

As far as durability, the bike I rode had been used for testing by motocross racers. It didn't look any worse for wear.

Check again your comment on not needing a license; do u mean a drivers license or u mean a registration tag ?
I dont know of any state that would allow this on the street w/o any lights, turn signals or horn ?
The special "type" of lithium-ion battery your talking about is called Li iron phosphate. Funny u did not not know that..?
Lastly; How durable is this thing going to be using bicycle tires/rims and spokes !!!

Joseph: I believe that's based on 30mph, although I may be wrong.

The cells are a special type of lithium-ion made by a manufacturer called Emoli. Hard to get info on them without calling the company, but they're similar to A123, which has gotten plenty of press.

Can you provide more insight into the speed at which the zero will average in order to achieve the reported 50 mile range. Also, what type of chemical cell is used in the battry pack?
