Actually iron fertilization might be one of the most environmentally beneficial techniques of the century. The level of hysteria and by many people over the technique is amazing and sad.

Mother nature dumps billions of tons of iron on the ocean every year, and has been doing so for billions of years. Ocean plants love iron, they suck it up in vast quantities any time they can. The ocean ecology is uniquely well-evolved to deal with iron and other natural minerals in vast and variable quantities. Iron is fertilizer.

The idea that a few hundred thousand or even millions of added tons of this ferilizer could cause significant harm to the oceans is absurd. This added fertilizer is most likely to be a huge boon to the ocean.

Studying iron fertilization is not a "risk". What is a "risk" is letting ignorant, hysterical people and politically-motivated scientists block the the normal progress of such an environmentally important field of science.
