Why, is the US AG. department not looking into taking out the 30 million acres of marginal farm land taking out of production in 1983 and put in into production of switch grass and outher biomass that does not need a lot of input cost.. the USDA is not paying out millions and millions to farmers not to produce on this land.. let us know... thanks bill portz.

Interesting. If you're interested in learning more about the the potential for bioenergy, I suggest you check out the Renewable Energy Finance Forum-Wall Street, held this June. It is an event bringing together financiers and renewable energy project developers to share their ideas on the future of the renewable energy industry. One of the official sessions will feature Bill Holmberg, the Chairman of the Biomass Coordinating Council, who will lead a discussion on the future of biofuels, including the prospects for new feedstocks such as algae and switchgrass.

As it stands now, Ethanol has only ~65-75% the BTU's of gasoline:
http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/pdfs/afv_info.pdf

My question - does ethanol produced from different materials (say sugarcane vs. corn vs switchgrass) have different BTU's?
